Vent smell and Funny Car Noises?
I have a 2005 Mercury Mariner that I bought three months ago. About a month after I bought it (on the first hot day)
I had my vent blowing (not the a/c) and noticed a really bad odor (enough to make me sick to my stomach). I have had it to the dealership 4 times for the same problem, and no one there can tell me what the smell is , how it got there and how to get rid of it. They have run it through and Ozone cleaning system once and deodorized the A/C three times (even though I am sure it is not the A/C). Also there is a really loud buzzing sound that seems to be coming from the drivers side windoe when the wind blows on it and there is a clicking sound that seems to be coming from the passengers side either near the seat belt or the rear passenger side door? Any suggestions?
Yep, nothing beats the sound of a 3,000 horse Top Fuel Funny Car….sorry, had to say it.
First things first….the odor could be caused by mildew. Even though the A/C isn’t turned on, it shares the same compartment as the heater and outside vent area. Try using a spray available at your local Dodge/Chrysler dealership….yep, I said Chrysler! They had problems with mildew in the HVAC (heating/vent/air conditioning) systems on some of their cars. The spray actually KILLS the mildew, not just the oder like a lot of these smell/odor sprays do. Tell them you need that mildew spray for the heater/air conditioner….they should know what you’re talking about.
The buzzing noise could be caused by a few things….a bad window rubber welt (what the glass slides into when it’s up), a bad door rubber (that black rubber that goes around the door opening. Another possibility is window visors (those add-on plastic visors that everyone loves to slap on their vehicle) and quite possibly a front bug shield. I have seen these darn things create so many funky noises, I can’t begin to tell you!
You got me stumped on the clicking noise….could be a mariad of different things….sorry.
